Trent grew up in Pocatello, Idaho and has lived in Missoula since the mid-1990s. He was admitted to practice in Montana State Courts (2001) and U.S. District Court, District of Montana (2001).

He is active in charitable and community organizations, serves on the board of several organizations and enjoys outdoor activities with his family.

University of Utah (B.A., Journalism, 1993) and the University of Montana (J.D., 2001; M.S., Environmental Studies, 2001). He was an editor of the Public Land and Resources Law Review, 2001-2002.
